Christmas Valley, Oregon

15 Mile Training Run - Topo map of route (click here)

Movie of run (click here)

This is a typical training exercise. Mileage varies from a short,
6.2 mile training run, to a 32 mile training run. The four wheel
training cart plus my weight on it, five gallon water container
and four water buckets, weighs over 550 pounds. Elevation is
4,333 feet above sea level on average.

<BELOW> The run begins at 0430 PST. The dogs are fed and hyper-hydrated.

<BELOW> The office before sunrise. The flood lights illuminate the work area.

<BELOW> The full moon over the office.

<BELOW> Sunrise is close...we have to get going. This run will be at least two hours.

<BELOW> We are finally off on the first leg of the loop run. The temperature is in the upper 40's (F).

<BELOW> The buffalo always make me nervous as they can be aggressive.

<BELOW> The first turn into the back leg of the run about 6 miles out.

<BELOW> The third leg, headed back towards the ranch.

<BELOW> Taking a cool break in some mud on the third leg. It is warmer than I would have liked, but they are doing good.

<BELOW> Rocky and Nikita in lead, team still resting....Rocky commenting that it's time to go!

<BELOW> The last leg of the run. Over two hours out.

<BELOW> At the corner of the ranch, turning towards the back driveway.

<BELOW> Turning into the driveway.

<BELOW> The last 200 feet and then taking the rest of the day off. Total time 2.25 hours, 15 miles.
Temperature now, is in the lower 60's (F).
