Ever since I was in high school in the '60s and saw my first Samoyed Dog, I have been fascinated with them. After skijoring across the trails of Northern Germany behind Fritz (a German-bred Samoyed Dog) in the '70s, my interest in outdoor activities with my Samoyed Dogs grew and grew. In the early '90s when I had come back to the United States to stay, I settled down and started looking for more fun and adventures to have with my Samoyed Dogs. In a few years though, it became apparent to me that there was a great need to help Samoyed Dogs who were without loving families that they belonged to. Somehow I felt there had to be some way to combine my interest in outdoor activities with the dogs and helping to save them. I was inspired by T.A.D. Dogsled Services and later by the Bay Area Siberian Husky Rescue and Referral. TAD uses rescued Samoyed Dogs for his dogsledding operations and BASH was certainly a successful rescue organization in the San Francisco Bay Area who also attracted members by hosting a lot of outdoor activities.

I had been somewhat put off by the parent breed club's tendency towards dog shows and not focusing more on the working heritage of the Samoyed Dog. So, in 1995, Expedition Samoyeds came to be. It was more a reminder to the Samoyed Dog community of the dog's working heritage. Although we get some of our finest dogs from Kriskella Kennels in Colorado, the majority are rescued Samoyed Dogs who have been given an opportunity to enjoy the lifestyle they were meant to.

In January of 1995, the original website for the national Samoyed Rescue went live on the WWW. Later it got its own domain and the Organization for the Working Samoyed joined the web family of Samoyed web pages at the new WWW domain, samoyed.org. Soon, the Samoyed Club of America joined us there also. Now, everything Samoyed can be found in this domain. I have helped other rescue groups (including Malamutes) with their web presence. So, you can find other Samoyed Dog rescue groups and other special Samoyed contributors at that domain now. I also host several rescue-oriented discussion groups. In 1996,

Most recently, in 1998, Denise and I combined forces and dogs in order to better accomplish our "missionary" work of helping the Samoyed Dog. Denise is an SFSR member and has been active in the rescue of Samoyed Dogs for sometime. And, she had a bunch of dogs (I'm thinking sled team here). Together, we take our dogs dogsledding, skijoring, backpacking, carting, etc. We train year around in order to go on long backcountry dogsled expeditions. Training is essential for us and the dogs to handle the physical and mental challenges in the backcountry. We try to get others involved in the various outings (Fests) that San Francisco Samoyed Rescue hosts for it's members year around. On Valentines Day 2000, Denise and I married in what was certainly the most memorable dog sled wedding anyone has been to. Literally, people from all over the country came to a ski hut in theSierra Nevada Mountains and surprised Denise for the wedding.

Since 2000, we are offering services to other Northern Breed dog groups, rescue groups and dog activity groups for web hosting, email discussion lists and partnerships in eCommerce. You can see and shop at the Expedition Outfitters store and help support our endevors. We carry a complete line of gear for the workling dog and if you want something you don't see, let us know. We go to many dog shows and events, the SNDD race circuit and any number of other events through the year. We'll see you there.
