Pinecrest Lake - January
1999
This was to have been the San Francisco
Samoyed Rescue...WinterFest I-99, but originally, there wasn't enough snow.
We went ahead and went into the Sierras, knowing there would be a snowstorm
again while we were there. There had been just enough snow earlier in the week
for the first day to be OK sledding and X-C skiing. Day 2 brought the snowstorm
and at least a foot of fresh snow. Over night, as the snow fell and covered
the Samoyed Dogs staked out on the picket line, the coyotes kept coming into
the campsite looking for a meal. This was reminiscent of the early explorers
having wolves visit them at night. Everything was carried to the snow camp via
dogsled.
